Museum
The Museum of the Cathedral
The Museum has three important galleries:
- The old Sacristy “of the Vermells”
- The old gothic Chapter gallery.
- The baroque Chapter gallery.
In the first gallery, which is the old sacristy, from the beginning of the 14th century, there is a rib vault and corbel with vegetable decoration. In here you can see:
- the portable altar of the king James I, diptych, in wood and silver from the middle of the 13th century.
- the two Rimmonim, masterpieces in silver from the 14th century. Originally from the Synagogue of Cammerata (Sicily). They were bought to some merchants by the Chapter of cannons.
In the second gothic gallery which is probably made by Guillem Sagrera there is a trapezoidal shape and a rib vault. In this gallery you can see:
- the altarpiece of Saint Sebastian, patron of de city of Palma, made by Alonso de Sedano.
The third gallery is baroque style from 1696. It is abundantly decorated with floral motifs. It has got an elliptic shape. It contains valuable objects such as:
- the reliquary of the True Cross, from the 15th century
- the reliquary-sculpture of Saint Vicente Ferrer, worked in silver from the year 1596
Many other objects with a special value can be admired in the Chapter Museum for example the candelabra with seven branches (made from silver by Joan Matons, from the beginning of the 18th century) or the Monstrance from the year 1585.
In the cloister (built in 1707) where the old orchard used to be, different elements can be seen on the walls of the corridors from old masterpieces of the Cathedral.
